Jo’s profile
Job title:
Health and Safety Manager for a large facilities management and property company in South Wales.
Responsibilities:
Duties involve compiling, managing and controlling all health and safety policies, procedures, training and activities.
I carry out site safety inspections and audits on offices, warehouses, hotels, and on light and heavy manufacturing plants.
I investigate accidents/incidents and complete RIDDOR reports. I also advise on control measures to prevent recurrence and protect the safety of all staff.
I have 6 years’ experience in the health and safety industry.
Skills and expertise:
I have achieved the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and I am an IOSH Technician Member having gained 5 years of health and safety experience.

Career aspirations:
The next step is for me to complete the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and then apply for IOSH Graduate Member status. Once I have achieved Graduate Member status I can use Grad IOSH in my title.
Competence is a key skill achieved with the NEBOSH National Diploma qualification. With this I have the opportunity to improve my position at work as I will be able to influence strategies concerning health and safety performance, employee engagement, culture and human factors, whilst keeping people safe, complying with legislation and making cost savings.
I plan to continually expand my knowledge working towards Chartered IOSH membership.
